A Learning Network is a small, structured action oriented support group in which each person describes a work challenge without being interrupted and obtains support and challenge from peers in a confidential setting. Participants collaborate on individual work and life issues while learning with, and from colleagues. Finally, each participant creates an action plan. A facilitator serves as a mentor for the process and supports the structure.
Research shows that Learning Networks can be especially supportive to women’s development In these ways:
· Finding one’s voice.
· Self-authority leading to self-esteem, leading to action
· Learning in the absence of authority/experts
· Moving from inner work to sharing story and getting feedback
· Affirmation from sharing experiences.
What are we offering? A select number of Vashon Women Leaders an opportunity to attend an introductory session of this work. Participants can then join a Learning Network with others. It will meet several times - those times will be decided by the group..
Why do this? By participating in an ongoing group, you will experience and develop:
· A large and more in-depth picture of issues.
· Support and challenge (Warmth and Light) from others.
· Listening and observing without interruption.
· Reflecting and concluding rather than just acting.
· Asking helpful questions and giving less advice.
· Giving and receiving feedback.
We hope you will join us to experience what learning networks can do for you.
About your Facilitator: Jane Neubauer’s signature work has been organizing and facilitating Learning Networks for 30 years. She learned this model in the UK while a part of a non-profit leadership center. She was a nurse, a professor and an executive in the US . While in London, she shifted her focus from ‘doing to development’ asking, “How can we support organizations, teams, and leaders to be their best?’ After moving to Vashon Island, she launched The Creative Leadership Retreat, using creative methods to coach individuals and groups (Learning Networks), as well as working with teams focusing on knowing self/group and being successful.
Jane is ‘kind-of’ retired and works in her community supporting people, art and the earth. Recently she facilitated a Learning Network for the 2023 Vashon Land Trust Interns.
