Movie Fundraiser at Vashon Movie Theatre: The Anxious Generation
The Anxious Generation: A Fundraiser at the Vashon Theatre for Women Hold the Key
Join Women Hold the Key for an evening of learning, growth, and community action. Together, we’ll watch bestselling author and social psychologist Jonathan Haidt’s powerful talk based on his book The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness.
Haidt reveals how the rise of smartphones and social media has “rewired” childhood, fueling an international adolescent mental health crisis. From the decline of play-based childhood to the explosion of phone-based living, he lays out the evidence behind rising rates of anxiety, depression, and loneliness among youth.
In a clear, accessible presentation, Haidt explores:
• Why childhood changed so rapidly between 2010–2015
• The five foundational harms of screen-saturated adolescence, and
• How families, schools, and communities can restore balance and connection
After the screening, stay for a panel discussion with Vashon parents and school counselors Anna Waldman, Yvette Butler, and Tara Vanselow, followed by a community conversation. Together, we’ll reflect on what resonated, share perspectives, and explore what we can do to support the health and resilience of our island’s youth.
Doors open at 5:30 pm. PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY to grab snacks and find your seat before the program begins at 6:00.
This is an ALL GENDERS welcome event.

Conflict can be a catalyst for growth—or a source of stress and division. This course empowers you to navigate disagreements with skill, confidence, and a mediator’s mindset, no matter the situation or the people involved. You’ll learn that no one else has to change for you to shift the outcome toward resolution and peace.
In this course, you will:
Discover your personal “conflict style” and understand how it shapes your reactions.
Identify your strengths and blind spots when tensions rise.
Learn practical mediator tools to approach disagreements with clarity and calm.
Develop strategies to reduce mistrust, hostility, and wasted resources.
Practice peacemaker techniques you can use in your family, workplace, and community.
Understand the roots of conflict—from competing values to struggles over power, status, and resources.
Benefits of attending:
Greater self-awareness in conflict situations.
Improved communication and listening skills.
The ability to create more cooperative, trust-based environments.
Reduced stress for yourself and others by resolving conflicts early and effectively.
“Conflicts involve struggles between two or more people over values, or competition for status, power, and scarce resources.” — Coser, 1967, in Moore, 1986

New Moon Yoga Nidra with Liz Peterson
Yoga Nidra is the yoga of rest—a deeply restorative and meditative practice designed to guide you into a state of conscious relaxation.

This guided journey leads you through breath awareness, body scanning, and visualization techniques to access a state between wakefulness and sleep, where deep healing and rest can occur.
