An Introduction to Darning

In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn the basics of darning, a traditional textile repair technique used to mend holes and worn areas in knit garments like socks, sweaters, and hats.

Using darning looms and embroidery floss, we’ll explore how darning works, why it’s effective, and how simple repairs can extend the life of our clothing. This class is beginner-friendly and centered on learning by doing. No prior sewing or mending experience is required.

All materials will be provided. Participants are welcome to bring a small knit item to practice on, or use provided fabric samples.

Instructor: Kavi Rana, a sewing educator and sustainable fashion designer whose work focuses on repair, reuse, and skill-sharing.

“I teach in a collaborative, accessible way that centers curiosity and hands-on learning. This class invites participants to learn the basics of darning together and build confidence in repairing their clothing.” - Kavi Rana
